And the effect he has had on Gator fans in general, including myself. So many years of success, has built unrealistic fan expectations to such a degree, that we've had two coaches walk, no run, away to 'other opportunities', including one feigning heart disease and citing Family time needs.

Muschamp's tenure was a few years of much needed humility, and remission from success. All of the braggadocio, built over so many seasons, had grown to such a temper, that the program had become a pariah for prospective coaching staffs. Despite what we might like to think of our proud program, we were becoming a virtual hot potato where no one wanted to follow a 'Mad Offensive Genius' or the Winningest coach in College football and the only relief was through ever growing financial incentives. Will Muschamp was a salve to relieve the 'heat' in that potato.

That said, God bless Jim Mcelwain. The pill of Muschamp was hard to swallow, and probably didn't need to be quite so painful, i.e. Georgia Southern, but it worked.

Today, our program is headed in the right direction, with a coach who is not only intelligent, but also passionate, and a good teacher. We are unbelievably happy to be 6-1 at this stage and our one loss was a game that we were competitive in, losing on a trick play. We are currently leading the SEC East and have a good chance to get to Atlanta. We might not win but we will have a good game plan, and be in the competition. Or we might win.

All in all, we have managed to make it through the desert that was the Muschamp era, and found an oasis, with abundant fruit, and prospective success. Recruits around the country have to be sitting up, and taking notice of this program. Saying, hey, that's a pretty good coaching staff down there. And some pretty damn nice facilities too. Gonna have to check that out.

Expectations have been reset, and it's fun to watch our Gators compete. We are building on a much more solid foundation, and building an even more long lasting reputation for excellence.
