1980....Us older Gator fans remember the year.  The ONLY time Georgia has won a national championship but it took a miracle play with :93 seconds in the Gator Bowl.  

Let me digress:

I worked for WTLV-Ch12 as a Sports cameraman with Nick Bashnan from 1975 to about 1985.  I was very lucky to get some of the best seats in the house to all the major sporting events like, college sports, Daytona, Gatornationals and many more. My most memorable was on the sidlelines of the 1980 Florida-Georgia game. It was a HUGE game, why, because it was Georgia. So many times in the 70's Florida was the better team but Vince Dooley convinced his team they did not have a chance against those mighty gators. And game day those Dawgs would beat Florida. Beat Doug Dickey, Beat Charley Pell. But 1980 would be different.  We had a GREAT team.  SEC championship on the line.  REMEMBER, Florida had NEVER won an SEC championship in football, over 80 years.  It was a great game.  Gators were up with 21-19.  Georgia was backed up on its own 8 yard line. 3rd and 8.  Buck Belue in the end zone thru a long pass to #badword# on the run....92 of the most excruciating yards of my life.  THE GROUND OF THE GATOR BOWL SHOOK THAT DAY.

 1 minute :03 on the clock, I walked over to the Florida sideline to get the reaction.  I don't have to tell you.  Ask Michigan fans this week what it feels like to have someone reach deep down into the pit of your stomach, rip up to the heart and yank it out.  It is the most demoralizing feeling.  I had nightmares for years.  Still do. Every year during Florida-Georgia week they come back.  The deamons.  

Spurrier helped calm down those spirits in the 90's.  I hope Coach Mac will call Spurrier this week or Coach will call mac and explain what this game means. STEVE understood.  We go to a place called 'The Gatorbowl" the other team has to fly in.  He had the same hatred for Georgia as most of the Gator Nation did.  

Coach Mac, have our boys ready for battle.  Don't listen to their BS about losing a player for spearing last week or how losing their star running back really hurt their chances.  He will be poor mouthing all week. Don't listen to it.  Go in there and KICK THEIR ASSES and leave with a smile on your face.  It feels so good to be back in the Big picture of college football again. When games REALLY mean something. Championships are won and lost in November.  Go Gators.
