"Billy Donovan and the NBA"

Edited by Author at 10/29/2015 - 9:53 a.m.
I thought I was confused... but I think I got it.

Last night, my interest in watching Billy was moderate, but intense enough that I found myself switching channels back and forth between Southpark reruns and the OKC Thunder (while browsing the web on my smart phone too). I'll admit that I probably only watched 12 minutes of actual game time, but I kept asking myself the same question as if it were posed from Bob from the movie OFFICE SPACE; "What would you say, that you do here?"

There was our old coach, dressed to the nines, strutting up and down the sideline. He had a stoic look and showed no emotion when they were up, down or after a big play. The most confusing part to me; at no point (during those 12 minutes of play) did he engage the players even once. No clip board, no instructions, no... well... coaching.

A few times, I saw the players take that extra pass he always preached about, but don't good players just do that? I also saw a lot of selfish behavior, where one would put it up just knowing that it should have gone in. The defense wasn't at all what I recall at UF.

I haven't watched the NBA very much to know any better. Over the years, I look at Horford's play or sometimes Noah's hustle, but never really concentrate on the coach. I suppose they have practices, right? Do they coach then?

This morning I kind of wanted to hear what the coach had to say about the game. Unfortunately, all I could find was an interview with Durant (I hear he's a decent player).

So, I came to this conclusion; I got it. Coach has busted his ass off for years. He's made quite a name for himself in the business. And at the end of the day, this is a business. So he got a substantial pay raise to work less. sign me up. I want that gig.

Regardless, I am happy for him. I'll support him. I'll probably even tune in again a few more times this year, and I'll most likely watch the 7 game in playoffs. I'll be curious though if I'll ever see the defense he boasted. That will be the sign that he is still coaching in my opinion. Go Billy! -Very proud of ya'
