"I agree it lowers expectations, but it is what it is..." |

Message Replied To ========== Unfortunately, this now lowers what we can reasonably expect next season Let's be honest with ourselves.....no, this is not for the best - at least not for next season. Our only options for the most important position on the field are now as follows: A walk on who has never seen any significant snaps in his 3rd program in 3 years. A guy in Franks whom everybody regards as a project and who needs some serious work on mechanics and accuracy. Nobody reasonable expects him to be ready for at least 2-3 years. A guy in Trask who is an even bigger project and who will take even longer to get ready. Treon...who has proven he is not an SEC caliber QB. That's it. That's all we have. Unless Del Rio is really surprisingly, SHOCKINGLY good....and there is no basis for believing so right now other than desperately wishful thinking....it will be another year of struggles on Offense...another year of hoping we can eek out 7 or 8 wins. Yeah Yeah I'm sure the usual suspects will "dislike" this bit of actual honesty but there simply is no reasonable basis to expect better in the short term. God, this sucks. We really needed Grier. How many freaking YEARS are we going to go without a legit QB? God Almighty! Tebow finished SIX YEARS ago and next season will make 7. How does a program like UF go that long without a legit QB? ============================== Grier is gone. He was an unknown quantity coming in to the season and proved to be better than anticipated (at least for me) at this point in his career. But it is possible that next year could prove better than anticipated for the Gators. I don't think the Gators will be able to surprise anyone next year. But they have the benefit of this bowl season and next spring to improve. And while practice won't improve Treon's arm strength, he can improve, as can the offense as a whole...and if the offensive line improves it just might make Treon more effective, even if he doesn't get any benefit from all that additional practice - but what if all that practice actually makes him better? And maybe the addition of the top juco running back, along with Cronkrite and Scarlett will make the Gators a more effective running team which could again take pressure off Treon and make him a more effective qb. Maybe none of that will happen, but why is it impossible that it could? Why start with the assumption the Gators are doomed until you see the product they put on the field next season? I have heard a lot about how having talent without coaching doesn't result in wins (Muschamp). Soooo...if we have confidence in our new staff and their coaching, why can't they develop talent beyond expectation? |
