is strengthen gun laws.  We will do things like allow and fund the CDC to look at gun violence as a health issue, close loopholes around background checks, require there to be some reasonable assurances that a person buying a gun is mentally fit, etc.  Obama does not want to do away with guns.  I know why the NRA fights these things and it has little to nothing to do with the constitution, rather, they are EXACTLY like big tobacco was, who, by the way, said that cigarette smoking didn't cause cancer and heart disease until pretty recently.  #badword# the NRA.

Bypassing Congress prevents any ability to ever get a consensus on the issue. Yes, he would face a lot of opposition, much of which is not reasonable opposition, but that is our process. And that process exists for a reason: to attain workable solutions for real problems. He pushed his healthcare reform through and now we have a cluster#badword# of epic proportions because he refused to fight the battles to get a consensus.

Instead, he opted for the unilateral Imperial president approach which will only harden opposition, he left out exactly HOW his proposals will be done ( the details of the process matter), what he is doing serves only to hassle (and piss off) millions of law abiding gun owners while doing virtually nothing to curb gun violence in America... and some future Republican POTUS now has the ability and precedent to just issue an edict to reverse it overnight.

But, hey, he HAS succeeded at giving the NRA a poster cause for the next few years and he has succeeded in selling more guns than anybody else in history. I wish I had bought stock in gun manufacturers..

I am not opposed to gun control laws in principle but HOW you go about it and how you enforce it matters greatly. The ends do not justify the means, and good intentions are worthless and can even be harmful unless they are thought through.
