"The Senate Has A Duty To Advise And Consent"

Message Replied To ==========

Just wondering your thoughts on the SCJ nominee?

especially from repubs on the boards...

should the repubs have the hearings and vote on this guy now or refuse iyo?

the senate does not have the right to refuse to consider.

They can vote this guy down and advise the president why they did so. They do not do their duty under the constitution to refuse to consider.

The constitution states the president "shall" nominate etc. It doesn't say the president shall nominate only in non-election years or when the senate is of the same party he is.

So the senate has a constitutional duty to have hearings.

For political reasons they should have hearings--first of all this guy, for all his warts, is no worse and could be than someone who Hillary or Sanders will nominate. Who knows who Drumpf might nominate. His sister? Cruz? And who knows if the republicans will even hold the senate next year.

I find the whole thing appallingly stupid.
