I have somewhat of an interesting perspective given I am not Cuban. I worked for 13 years for a Cuban lawyer, a very liberal, ex-policeman, turned lawyer, Cuban from a long family of Cuban descent. He will agree with me. I also worked for most of those thirteen years with a Cuban secretary, who I love with every fiber of my being to this day, who had a Father imprisoned in Cuba and, who, probably would still not agree with me. Funny, I spoke with her today but did not bring it up. I should have. Her kids, though, probably would agree with me. That is the life of third generation Miami.

50 years of totally failed politics is more than enough. It did nothing to rid communisim from Cuba. It did nothing to rid Cuba of Castro. It did impoverish a nation of decent people.

I applaud every effort to open up Cuba to the U.S. After 50 years, it certainly seems as if it is time to try a different approach. You can call it the tide of rising expectations or whatever emphasis you wish to put on it but opening up a flow of ideas, communication, travel and relations will, in both the short and long term, serve both countries far more than the failed diplomacy, or lack thereof, of the last 50 years.

Ignore the past...not necessarily....what is the alternative? Another failed 50 years?
