"as many have said, over and over, "mistakes" are made with dogs all the time."

I don't change my stance on the dog being let out first

that is complete failure on the owners and had she not let that happen the dog would be alive today, that is a fact.

My other argument in this thread is if the officer was actually that scared that he feared for his life and safety he had cause to stop that dog any way he could. I still agree with this but as Wayne, you, and others have said this is a very slippery slope determining if this really happened.

No lawyer has yet to explain this law but I think we all know that is basically what the law says imo BICBW and why I am asking the lawyers here to explain it.

Having said that, Investi makes the point he should be fired basically b/c iho that dog did not pose the threat the officer claims and if it did his own department will lose total respect for him going forward.....also in his judgment, this will hinder this officer in future police dealings not only in this area but possibly other situations....thus he should be fired.

I also said that in the thread...maybe he doesn't need to be a cop if he is this scared of dogs.

oh well....it was a good discussion and interesting to read others thoughts and ideas concerning it.

I put that in quotes b/c I don't really think whate we see on this video is a mistake made by careless owners, I see it happen all the time with dogs, expecially at the dog's own house (remember this is the DOG'S HOUSE).

I think what bothers some about your take (I know it does me) on this is that you write this off as some kind of unfortunate outcome b/c the owners were negligent, and it somehow justifies, or at a minimum explains the officers action, which was the use deadly force.  This is where I think people disagree with your take, I know I do. Police officers are trained to deal with these kinds of situations, and are not trained to shoot first and ask questions later (although of late it seems that maybe this is changing in our country).  I do not see a video where an officer should have felt that his life was in danger, or even that he was in a situation where he could have been badly injured. So, I think YOU need to ask yourself why did the officer act in this manner?  You've said you would have understood why your own dog was shot and killed in this situation.  After accepting investi's analysis, do you still feel that way?  Do you think a cop like this would have a higher probability of using deadly force in a situation involving humans based on the behavior you see in this video?  I sure do.  These are not the kinds of people we need being cops.
