Message Replied To ========== I keep reading here how Obama is divisive and failed to bring the country together I'd argue that it's impossible to do anything with people so petty, hateful and vindictive. Cotton is the same guy, of course, who took a huge bribe from Israel to try to blow up the Iran deal. Cotton eventually released the two other holds, but not the one on Butts. She told me that she once went to see him about it, and he explained that he knew that she was a close friend of Obama’s — the two first encountered each other on a line for financial-aid forms at Harvard Law School, where they were classmates — and that blocking her was a way to inflict special pain on the president. Cotton’s spokeswoman did not dispute Butts’s characterization of that meeting, and stressed, in separate emails, that Cotton had enormous respect for her and her career. That’s Washington for you. Deeply admiring someone is supposed to be a consolation for — and not a contradiction of — using him or her as a weapon. History will not be kind to Rs when it writes the story of the treatment of President Obama by the opposition party. ============================== a lot of us were skeptical of him, though most were willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. Almost all of us pulled for him to be successful in uniting the nation and restoring the economy. Good intentions on his part notwithstanding, he has failed miserably on the former and has failed to generate anything resembling a "good" recovery ...... especially considering we currently have the lowest labor-participation rate in our lifetimes, the slowest economic "recovery" in at least our lifetimes, while wages have continued to lag for the average American. All of this while increasing the national debt as much as all of his predecessors combined. Further, he has used federal agencies, such as the IRS, for petty, political retaliation ... things even Richard Nixon only dreamed of doing. He openly lied to Congress and the American people wrt dealings with Iran. His foreign policy is, for the most part, a failed endeavor, at the same time the United States has less influence, sway, and respect around the globe, from friends and foes alike. His series of "my way or the highway" regulatory decisions & enforcement practices, along with the method he used to ram his crowning achievement down America's throat, belie any talk of cooperation. And let us not forget his promise of being the "most open administration in history", which is anything but. So while there is undoubtedly, and in some cases understandable, resistance to him, attempting to blame even most of his woes on his opponents, especially after 8 years of his party bashing his predecessor, js laughable. Yes, he has failed in several respects, one of which has been his political naivite in how to use the bully pulpit and to work with a staunch opposition in Congress.
