who has any real compassion for the plight of the hard working masses could ever be in favor of most gun legislation in the United States. 

The ninth circuit has ruled for all intents and purposes that our 2nd Amendment rights only apply to those who can afford property rights. Can you imagine if any court tried to put such a wealth requirement on any other part of the Bill of Rights? It would be immediately labeled and laughed out of the room for the un-American abortion of liberty that it is.  

This in spite of the reality that the lower socioeconomic classes have a much more legitimate need to own guns. Appalachians don't have militarized police that show up to protect them within three minutes of any threat like us in our modern suburban utopias. A young black man in west Baltimore is a thousand times more likely to be confronted by real threats of violence than the average American. Yet Maryland has volumes of gun laws on the books that make him a criminal for carrying a gun to protect himself. And those laws have been highly effective in making many such young black men into convicted criminals. Gun laws ruin lives of the poor and working classes. That's all they do. 

It's really sad, and if empathy is what makes a liberal, then no true liberal could ever favor any of our ridiculous gun laws.
