Message Replied To ========== Intertesting interaction with the UF ticket office re FL/GA tix.... So, I miss the deadline for ordering Away tickets -- it ended last Friday -- and I call the ticket office to see if it's even possible to order my usual (and booster capped 2) FL/GA tix. The rep tells me the deadline has been extended until this Friday, and I can purchase as many tix as I want. Reaaaally? Is this normal or has ticket demand fallen this much? It IS a pretty special regular season game. ==============================The generation before most of us here on both sides of the rivalry cherished everything about the World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party. Everything about it culminating in the game itself, a huge rivalry, and most of the time a crucial game in the conference/division race. The generation that I suspect most of us here are in followed suit and continue to but quite frankly we are a dying breed (figuratively only I pray) and slowly getting supplanted by the generation behind us who have not even remotely the appreciation for this game that it so deserves. To them it's no different than any other conference game and they wonder, "Dude, why the f_ck do we have to like have the game in Jacksonville? What's up with that? That's like such a pain in the ass dude." That crowd goes to the game to party in the parking lot and are perfectly happy to watch casually on a big screen in between keg stands, jäger bomb shots, and taking their ten millionth selfie with their phone and once they find out who won they, regardless of school affiliation, are the first ones to get in the other's face making complete asses of themselves proclaiming, "Hell yeah, we kicked y'all's ass dude!" If I sound like a bitter old (though I'm only 49) crumudgeon, well ok. Guilty as charged. Somebody offer an argument to the contrary. Go ahead, I'll wait.... Lastly, required reading for the aforementioned bunch should be Statsman's annual post "Drinking with the Enemy." |
