I am not a big regular poster, but have been lurking for some time ever since the Miami loss.
Things have not been great since then, and have seen many people turn their passions inside out trying to take a defensive or offensive stance surrounding the team, Coach and program. No one is right or wrong to that extent.
I see the main differences between fans, at least, now is that while many can understand and sympathize with the youth, inexperience, injuries issues, for some reason known only to himself and a Higher Power, our coach does NOT seem to be capable of either publicly recognizing shortcomings or failures to any cognizable degree, be they with the depth, staff decisions, or whatever. It is very maddening to many to see him fail to admit to problems. It is not an indication of weakness to admit to error or fault..it is the first step to understanding...a more clear expression of these things would help him immensely..
For many, until he starts to show a glimmer of this, many will flee from his support, just as many will run to his aid when he shows this. I think EVERY fan knows he seems to be a great person, and a fine custodian of the young men on our team. The problem is, he does not yet seem to have mustered the wisdom to deal with these types of problems. Indeed this is where his lack of head coaching experience is so exposed. I would dare say he has met with just about every conceivable pitfall a coach like him can be exposed to (replacing a legend, "bare cupboard", injuries to key players where depth is lacking, tough schedule, rabid fan base, major competition at in state schools, raw QB, personal issues with is folks, etc.)all in less than two years. He has had big wins last year, and has stumbled (so far) this year looking like the teams that folded last year while doing so...
Thus, I have decided that, after all, this is just a game in the end, one I hate to lose, but one which ultimately must be savored, or swallowed whole..and that the three year plan will win out regardless. If it gets as bad as some predict, I would not be at all suprised if he stepped down voluntarily, as he seems to be the type of man who would want to make it easier on Foley, as his friend, even if it chaps at his desire to never quit. I just hope people put perspective and reflection into their thoughts before thjey express them, and never forget THAT IT'S GREAT..TO BE...A FLORIDA GATOR!!!!
