47 years ago today began three days of peace and music.

And drugs and sex, there may have been some drugs and sex too.

==============================

community was at Woodstock with his GF.  Told me of waking up in his van to Jimi playing the Star Spangled Banner.  He thought he was dreaming, but went outside and it was not a dream, obviously.  The story this guy told me one day over lunch just stopped me in my tracks.  Jerry is a quiet guy, very thoughtful, a great guitar player in his own right, a tremendous birder and just an all-around sweet human being.  I told him he needed to write a book about his Woodstock experience.  He basically met this girl in Atlanta in the late 60's.  He was still in HS and was 17, she was like 15.  They ran away together (in his beat up VW van, no less), and moved to California where I think they lived in a commune.  They wanted to get married.  They worked their way back east for Woodstock and got there early enough to have a great spot with their van.  I think they ended up being on the site for several weeks past when the show was over.  Jerry and his GF never got married and broke up in the early 70's.  They lost touch, each moved on and had families of their own.  About 3 years ago, she somehow found him (she was in CT) and the reason was to tell him that she had terminal cancer diagnosis and regretted how things had ended between them and wanted to see him one more time.  I think she had months to live at best.  Jerry's current wife told him he had to go see her, which he did.  They were able to spend about 3 days together and he tells me they ended up in a good place. She died less than a week after they reunited.  Just typing this sends chills down my spine!  He showed me a picture out of one of those huge Woodstock coffee table type books that was him and her walking though the crowd, I don't even know how he found that he was in this book, but it was damn sure him!
