Manafort departure described to me as: getting out of the way, but not going away. Am told he still plans to help from outside the campaign.

Yep. Just like Trump is still talking to Lewandowski, he may now be still talking to Manafort (speaking of Lewandowski, why is he still on CNN's payroll? It's tantamount to a direct contribution to the Trump campaign; paying for a staffer for them so Trump doesn't have to. But I digress.).

I remember reading very early on in primary season that it's very important to be the last person to talk to Trump before a decision is made. For now at least, those "last people" will probably be Bannon. Or Conway. Or Jared Kushner & Ivanka (there are reports today that he/they had a lot to do with Manafort being ousted, just like he did with Lewandowski). And I almost forgot: the most likely person behind the curtain pulling the strings as of now is one Roger Ailes.
