I will never understand why the rest of the civilized Western world seems to believe that humans should look after fellow humans, when in this country, if you're unlucky... sorry. You're just screwed.

I pay more for everything now knowing that the 27 year old kid (a friend) in Asheville who was never able to get coverage (because of what she was born with) now can... and I'm perfectly okay with it.

I don't like the America where your birth fortune is your fate. I like the kumbayah approach that we should all assume we could be the unlucky one and therefore we should all accept some responsibility toward one another.

I guess that makes me a loser lib.

This is particularly troubling given the group most likely to pay that would not are the young . . . and the group most likely to benefit is the old. This is yet another government sanctioned robbery of the future. Perhaps the young know best how to spend their money to effect their lives in the most positive ways . . . and shouldn't they be given that chance? It is not like the old have not already robbed them of 20 trillion at some day off in the future.

You are welcome to be benevolent and help these poor people. But is it benevolence and love if you simply implore your government to take it by force?
