Message Replied To ========== Penn State? Texas? Stop it. And OMFG how long will the hardon for the ancient history of Notre Dame continue? Idiocy. ==============================Texas has one consensus national title. They were largely irrelevant in the 80's, 90's and after one good decade in the 00's have sunk back to being irrelevant. I get that they were very good for about a decade in the 60's and won 3 titles then.....so what? Michigan? One split title since the 1940's. Other than the rough patch with Rich Rod they did not suck but they weren't exactly nationally relevant either. I remember Bo Schembeckler. I remember him for having perpetually overrated teams that got their asses handed to them when they had to leave the safe confines of the Big 2 - Little 8 conference Oklahoma had one title in 85, another in 00 and has been a bridesmaid numerous times. They sucked in the 90's. Southern Cal was irrelevant in the 80's and 90's, was very good while cheating under Sneaky Pete winning one title (later stripped) and one split title. They've sunk back to irrelevancy since then. Notre Dame was sucky in the early 80's, got good for about a decade under Holz and won one title, then went back to sucking starting 20 years ago. They've been better in the last 5 years but got their teeth kicked in when faced by a truly elite opponent in Bama while playing for another title. Penn State has two titles which it won in the 80's. The program fell off a cliff about 20 years ago and hasn't been back. Georgia won a title in 1980 and played for another in 81. They spent large swathes of the 80's and 90s as largely irrelevant on the field despite the hype. They have 2 SEC titles in 30 years. Tennessee was up and down in the 80's, very good in the 90's and won one national title but by the mid --'s they ran out of gas and have sucked eggs for a decade. I'm sorry but these programs are NOT ELITE in my lifetime as a college football fan...but hey, its only over thirty five freaking years so what could I know? How long do the above mentioned programs get to coast on the fumes of the leather helmet days? The elite programs in my college football lifetime BTW.......Alabama, UF, sow, scUM. Nebraska, Ohio State. All of those have 3 or more consensus national titles and sit atop the charts for winning percentage over that time - not coincidentally.

-- Starred by: gatorvette1012 DCPowerGator Ali G.ator Crazy Eddie chigatorbri -- “Every man should endeavor to understand the meaning of subjugation before it is too late… It means the history of this heroic struggle will be written by the enemy; that our youth will be trained by Northern schoolteachers; will learn from Northern school books their version of the war; will be impressed by the influences of history and education to regard our gallant dead as traitors, and our maimed veterans as fit objects for derision… It is said slavery is all we are fighting for, and if we give it up we give up all. Even if this were true, which we deny, slavery is not all our enemies are fighting for. It is merely the pretense to establish sectional superiority and a more centralized form of government, and to deprive us of our rights and liberties.” Maj. General Patrick R. Cleburne, CSA, January 1864 "I yet believe that the maintenance of the rights and authority reserved to the states and to the people, not only essential to the adjustment and balance of the general system, but the safeguard to the continuance of a free government. I consider it as the chief source of stability to our political system, whereas the consolidation of the states into one vast republic, sure to be aggressive abroad and despotic at home, will be the certain precursor of that ruin which has overwhelmed all those that have preceded it."
