Message Replied To ========== I am definitely getting older. Not so long ago, I would have read every word. This time I just scanned the page for any reference to the Gators while thinking how little I cared about what any of those guys thought. ==============================I think I would have been a good old man in the '90s and '00s. Sports news was at least interesting. I could come home after a game and watch ESPN. I knew that I could look forward to game summaries, highlights and a sound bite or two. I didn't have to hate Utah or Southern Cal to appreciate the highlights. I had room to form my own opinion. Now people watch the highlights online. They already have animated GIFs and WebMs that people post during the games. Now ESPN, Sports Illustrated, CBS only care about broadcasting the opinions of their talking heads. "I played college football 10 years ago and this is why Florida sucks and they will get trounced during their next game". They do it because that kind of crap interests some people. Some people need to be spoon fed an opinion they can placard to all their coworkers at work on Monday. The opinions are caustic and they have to be or they'll lose ratings. I am not saying extreme opinions are stupid. I like making them, I like reading them when I am on the INTERNET and its just fans spouting their stupid fan opinions. And to be honest, their type of "journalism" is only going to get worse because their ratings are dropping and their clicks are dropping and they have lost touch with what people actually want. |
