"You and your local mediots only confirm that LSU fans have embarrassingly perverted priorities." |
|
Message Replied To ========== Yep, can only conclude Foley manipulated and got the game put off, time for players to get healthy. and the SEC didn't have the ballz to stand up to him. ============================== LSU fans and the local media there have certainly reaffirmed their belief that football is to be worshiped above all else. What a pathetically shameful display of selfishness and nonsense from a group of people who should, more than most others, be sympathetic to the concerns of a population threatened by a severe hurricane. I consider myself blessed to be among people whose prevailing view is that a football game does not deserve priority over the safety and security of our citizens -- and who have the good sense to comprehend that in the days immediately following a natural disaster, all available resources should properly be directed to the task of restoring normalcy to the lives of those who suffered damage. At the time the various options were being considered and the decision on whether or when to play the game was being made, knowledgeable experts were still predicting that hurricane-force winds were likely to reach over one-third of this state, cause catastrophic damage to areas along more than 300 miles of coastline, and curtail power to millions of people. Those in Louisiana with intact memories should understand the gravity of that situation and the sobering prospect of such potentially devastating consequences. Instead, what we see is LSU fans and their sycophants in the media seize upon this pending disaster for Floridians as an opportunity to promote their own selfish interests by pressing to procure an extra home game from UF, or to force UF to play the game under adverse conditions, while dismissing as meaningless the legitimate concerns of Florida officials. If you want to ascribe ulterior motives to UF athletics officials and continue complaining here that it's somehow unfair that Florida didn't agree to give its home game to LSU (apparently without any commitment to adjust the future schedule so that UF would receive an extra home visit from LSU to compensate for the resulting imbalance), or to play the game on Sunday or Monday (when thousands of emergency personnel, utility repair crews, and food and fuel suppliers will be crowding the roads trying to provide urgent assistance to those in need who have suffered losses, and thousands motre who would otherwise be in Gainesville for the game will be preoccupied attending to the needs of family members), go ahead and knock yourself out. You're not going to alter the fact that the game isn't going to be played this weekend. Nor are you going to change the minds of the majority here who recognize that calling off the game this weekend was the sensible decision. You're only going to continue embarrassing yourself by demonstrating that you are immature, inconsiderate, and sorely lacking in common sense. |
