Message Replied To ========== Maybe the evidence for climate change isn't as incontrovertible as we want it to be... I mean, I believe in anthropomorphic climate change, but if pressed on why I believe this, I have to appeal to authority. I might be able to talk about polar ice caps and sea levels and greenhouse gas, but I can't talk about it in depth because I don't have the deep knowledge. Nor do I have the time to gain this knowledge.
So I'm stuck trusting a group of experts. Which is not the same thing as being certain that 2+2=4. Not by a long shot. Because I have to also acknowledge that there are other experts who have varying degrees of doubt as to the impact that humans are having on the climate. And the only thing I have to refute them with is that more experts disagree with them.
My certainty, in this scenario, can never be 1. And my uncertainty can never be 0.
But, that's me.
Maybe you have a better path to knowing that humans are causing global warming. EDIT: The subject says "climate change," and the evidence for this is obvious. It should say "climate change caused by man." ==============================maybe the evidence for exact policies to "fix" the problem is the problem? This is what I've been talking about. Identification of a problem with "facts" does not mean you know how to organize the power of coercion and force thru a legislative system to effect proper changes. The climate is massively complex . . . much more complex than almost everything else government meddles in except the economy. Do we remember uncle Bernie and company with their heads in the sand about the coming economic meltdown? Again, the pretense of knowledge. Because someone claims to have the facts, even if those facts appear to be correct, does not mean it is prudent to lay down and let them put into effect far reaching policies. |
