- The OL is getting better.  Its still bad rather than "quite bad" but that does represent progress.  Our per carry average against a mediocre UGA Defense was garbage but we did mostly protect the QB and we could run at least a little bit.  Hopefully we can take another step forward in the 2nd half of the season and be only "below average" by late Novermber/early December.

- The WR corps....the youngsters ie Cleveland/Hammond/Swain have talent, but there is obviously a lot they don't get yet....blocking being a big thing they don't do well yet.  Still, all 3 have shown a knack for getting open and catching the ball in limited action.  I remain hopeful that by next season - and with the addition of a healthy Dre Massey - this unit can be a team strength when those 4 are added to Callaway and Powell.  We actually DO have something we can call a "WR corps" now without provoking gales of laughter - for the first time since 2008.  We're just too young to execute at a high level this season.  Hopefully we can work the Freshmen in to more of the game plan as the season wears on.  We really need a complement in the Z slot for Callaway on the other side.

- LDR...is physically limited.  Yesterday he only made 1-2 truly bad decisions as opposed to 4-5 the week before against Mizzou.  It looks like that was just rust from him not playing for a month as he was not doing that early in the season.  Hopefully those mistakes can be eliminated.  He will never be Eason and he has no glittering NFL future but he doesn't need to be in order to be effective.  We are going to have to lean on the passing game to a much greater extent vs LSU and Bama if we make it to Atlanta as now looks likely.  There is no way our OL will be able to open holes with any sort of consistency against either DL.

- RB...we've found the ones we need.  Jordan Scarlett stopped dancing, put on 10 pounds of muscle and got serious about hitting the hole in the offseason.  The difference between him this year and last is obvious.  Perine.....*grin*.  Thompson is a disappointment frankly but, we're still in good shape at this position because we brought in enough good prospects that we found a couple of truly good ones.

- K...Eddie has to get over the mental block he has kicking short to intermediate field goals.  Other than that, he has been dynamite nailing kicks from long range we wouldn't have ever attempted before and blasting every kickoff through the endzone.  MASSIVE upgrade over what we had before.

- DT....our starters of Caleb Brantley and Joey Ivie are very good.  Khari Clark has looked good in a key reserve and sometimes starting role.  I think we're just fine with him holding down the #1 technique spot next year - he's a lot less fat, a lot stronger and more determined than he was last year.  He really transformed his body in the offseason and it shows.  Taven Bryan had a disappointing first half of the season after showing flashes of brilliance as a freshman.  He seems to be slowly coming out of that Sophomore slump.  We need him to step up next season.  Jachai Polite is a good looking prospect.  He has 2 sacks in limited action but you can tell he is underweight for a DT.  He needs to put on a good 25 pounds of beef for next season but I like his potential. 

- DE...we are loaded here.  Just loaded.  We lost BOTH of our starters in Cox and Sherritt and you never would have known it as the backups CeCe Jefferson and Jabari Zuniga are easily better than most team's starters.  3rd stringer Keivonnus Davis is a solid player in his 2nd year too.  We are in great shape at this position going forward even though Cox will be off to the NFL.

- LB...Davis and Anzalone are two of the best in America.  They even complement each other very well with Davis as the tough run stuffer and Anzalone as the faster OLB type you can use to blitz or in coverage.  Next up and sure to be our starters next year are David Reese and Kylan Johnson in the Davis/Anzalone roles.  I really haven't seen enough of Joseph and Moon to make any kind of judgment.  We need some more guys to step up or some incoming recruits to step up next year because I just don't know what we will have after the 2 starters.

- Safety...Washington/Harris are just OK.  Neither is a huge liability but neither is a difference maker either.  The coaches have done a good job of keeping Marcus Maye away from coverage responsibilities - where he often struggles - and left him free to just provide help over the top and run support at which he really excels.  He will be off to the NFL so we really need guys to step up.  I haven't seen enough of Lenton or Taylor to know if we have something with either one.  We really need at least one difference maker here next season.  This spot has me concerned.

- CB....Wilson and Tabor are the best pair UF has ever had on one team...and yes I  remember Haden and Jenkins.  Duke Dawson is OK as a nickleback when used properly....that means when he can rough up WRs before they get into their routes.  If he is used improperly - ie held back and ordered to cover WRs downfield, he is vulnerable.  Behidn them we have.....ummm......frankly what we have seen behind those 3 is frightening for next year.  Chauncey Gardner might be a good one though he is developing a bit slower than I had hoped.  Still, he's just a true freshman so maybe he develops into a player for next season.  Putu has looked OK but in extremely limited action.  We could really use he and Gardner stepping up next season.  We badly need to hit a home run in recruiting to replenish our talent here.  We're off to a good start with 3 good ones committed but we could use more.  Fortunately, CB is one of those positions where a talented freshman can come in and make a difference right away.

Right now I'd say we have a great shot to beat everybody but LSU.  I don't think we match up very well against them - especially their Defensive Front - but Arky?  We can definitely beat them.  They don't run well or stop the run.  Their strong suit is passing and we have a dynamite pair of corners.  The Cocks?  They are at the Swamp and their Offense just isn't good enough.  sow will be fired up for us of course but Francois doesn't look like a stud QB if you contain him in the pocket and do not allow him to run.  That leaves the Girl Puncher who must be stopped.  Their D has been erratic so I could see us scoring 21-28 points which might well be enough.  Before the season I said 10-2 was most likely with 9-3 the second most likely outcome.  Take away the free "W" against Presbyterian and I still think that the most likely outcome.  Regardless, we're almost certainly going back to Atlanta.  Coach Mac will have done twice in 2 years what Muschamp failed to do once in 4 years and what even Urban Meyer only did 3 times in his 6 years.  That should give us some more positive Mojo on the recruiting trail as we slug it out for the last 10 or so prospects we need to haul in a good class.
