"The WH protective press pool plays a vital role...."

Message Replied To ==========

There are 2 stories here ... one of which you correctly note wrt the reasonable justification

for continuous press access to the most powerful leader in the world.  The other is the real and perceived attitude in much of the press wrt how they are covering this story, one which reflects less than objective reporting.  I think it is the latter towards which the 0P was directed, rather than attempting to justify Trump's relationship with the press, per se.

==============================

...and hopefully this was just a breakdown in communication between Trump and his staffers, and not a deliberate attempt to ditch the press.

This is another symptom of a potentially bigger problem though, and that's transparency. President Obama promised the most transparent administration in history, which was a promise that simply wasn't kept. It appears a Trump administration is going to be even more opaque - and there was certainly ample evidence of opaqueness during his campaign. So we're going to see demands for transparency switch party lines now, when transparency demands should be bipartisan. But who am I kidding - we've seen it on this board.

No transparency from Obama: "BAD! BAD OBAMA!"

No transparency from Trump: "Why do his tax returns even matter?"

It still remains all about the letter after their name, be it R or D.
