No pressure or anything, but the next three games could essentially ruin our program

Hyperbole? Naw man. College football is becoming a reflection of our society: capricious, impatient and inattentive. The passion is fading. Our traditions appear forced and boring to an ever-growing generation of fans vegetating in our stadiums, quietly glued to their smartphones, taking selfies and leaving their seats only to find better WiFi reception. And these are the hardcore fans.

Everyone else is OK with watching the game on their 4K sets. Others just leave an auto-updating browser window up with all the game scores while they watch their porn. People are abandoning what college football used to be and now simply view it as a source of entertainment that competes with other sources of entertainment.

And the players are right there with them. The rivalries do not mean what they used to. Championships do not mean what they used to. Game days are watered down and we are culturally shifting to a few elite programs, much like college basketball. You have to either sell-out completely to keep your program on top or your fickle fanbase will just gravitate to something more enjoyable.

The 8-5 "Urban Meyer" led 2010 season was tremendously damaging to the psyche of Florida football. We have been keeping our heads above water since, but only just. We have been dangling over the precipice of mediocrity. It has seemed remarkably easy for our teams to get "lost" ever since.

If we had strong leadership, a positive vibe around this program and/or a ruthless, cutthroat fire to win, we would have never gone on a 7-game losing streak in 2013. We would never have gone on cruise control after clinching the championship game last year. The culture around Florida football has been pensive and negative. Even worse, a total concession of these things as "just how things are".

This is not the same ol' cyclical nature of college football anymore. We have burned through all our good will over the past 5 seasons with recruits, fans and the media. If Tennessee somehow loses to Missouri, while we lose tomorrow, it could potentially set up a series of events that would set our program back 5 years, if not more. Not could. Would.

Our recruiting would absolutely trend downwards and McElwain would very likely never recover over the next year and the one after that. And every other team in our division would be trending up, Georgia and Tennessee, not to mention the vast majority have already conceded that winning the East is irrelevant anyway because we would automatically lose to Alabama anyway.

Seriously.

When did we become cuckolds? Are we just going to sit here and hold Alabama's d*qk while they pound championships? I am not into wearing knee pads. And that is our culture now. Imagine our culture after going a second-straight year on a losing streak? Is our team going to concede middle of the pack in our own division next? How would you think that plays out with wins and loses?

If you think replacing MrsChamp was hard. Imagine finding a coach who is taking over a program that has not been in the spotlight for 10+ years. We're starting to leave the national conversations and becoming the occasional interesting score on a game-day widget.

If there are any positives, it's that I believe this LSU game cannot be viewed like a normal matchup anymore. LSU does not have to win this game, whereas Florida does. Ed Orgeron will not be coaching there next year and, after taking out their anger against Arkansas after losing to Alabama, I could see their players mailing this one in. I also think LSU will be overconfident.

I feel the same about FSU. While they could certainly crush us, they seem to be lacking something they have had. Their entire team is Dalvin Cook and their defense is the worst I have seen it since 2007/2008. If we lose to LSU, I could see our team focusing and coming together to salvage their season against FSU.

I think it's possible we go 1-1 in the next 2 weeks and it's possible we go 2-0 and at least that is something when our program is fighting to stay relevant these days. Losing a string of games though is the worst possible thing that could happen to Florida. With the climate of college football these days, it is even harder to stay on top. Hurting yourself like that is exponentially worse than it used to be. It could legitimately ruin our program.
