Message Replied To ========== I think people overlook the fact that he is a black man with a white wife, which is almost unthinkable in tejas. Racism had a lot to do with the resistance and lack of buy-in from the big Bevo boosters there. He's not "one of us", which is a huge factor in Bevo land. He was always on a very short leash, and AtM's rise was viewed as coming at Bevo's expense. Bevo suddenly found itself having to actually compete for recruits in-state, instead of anointing the chosen. You cannot discount the massive arrogance and sense of entitlement that permeates Bevo football. Charlie never really had the backing he needed to be able to survive long enough to right the ship Mack Brown had run aground. ============================== |
