As you are fully aware, for some time we have been dealing with an issue that has finally come to its conclusion. When Prediction Boy decided to turn pro several years ago, we wished him well and went on a national search for a new name for the picks column. I guess you could say it was an international search because we ended up with Gator DJ. Gator DJ did a fine job in many areas. He made us laugh unintentionally and cry whenever he mentioned Barry Manilow and we always enjoyed it when he made fun of RT or Mud's mythical brutal handsomeness. However, when it came to actually making the predictions, Gator DJ left a lot to be desired. When mediocrity turned to just plain bad, we felt a change was needed. Last week, Gator DJ was 5-759. I'm sorry, but 5-759 is not acceptable at The Virtual Swamp. What must be done eventually must be done immediately. I know that some of you will question whether it's a smart idea to make a change in the middle of a season. But we feel like bringing in a new moniker right now means a clean slate and a chance to salvage this season. Gator DJ will be paid the remainder of his contract, which was really just beer stained ponchos and membership on the Hung(a)ryGator e-mail list. This wasn't easy. Gator DJ was a big part of the Virtual Swamp. But sometimes you have to make difficult decisions. This was one of those. We move forward and with that I give you the new title of this column ... "Jimmy V." Jimmy V thanks everyone for making this transition work. We have a tough road ahead, but there will be no excuses. It's time to put everything aside and pull together to try to get some games right. It's debut time. No Gatorade bath is required.
