Message Replied To ========== Only 2 games under 30 points scored. Sigh. Would we had that kinda offense today. * ============================== I was living and working in Dallas during that season. I was a young single man with nothing to spend my money on ... save Gator football. I went to 6 games that year. Including the loss at FSU. That was a hard one. I watched Texas beat Nebraska in the Big12 C'ship game to set up the rematch. But Arizona State was still undefeated. I had no plans to attend the Sugar Bowl, until I watched Ohio State win. My brother and his wife (he married a Nole) were already in NO. I called my sister (also a Gator) and told her I was leaving that night and was sleeping on the floor in my brothers hotel room. I wasn't missing the opportunity for us to win a Natty. I had no ticket, but was decked out in Gator finery outside the stadium. Tickets were still available at the box office for around $75. Can you believe that? The day of the biggest game in Gator history... potential National Championship and it wasn't sold out. My... how things have changed. Some Gator fan had an extra and gave me a ticket for free. If that doesn't beat all. My sister and her husband bought tickets at the box office. I didn't sit in my seat. I couldn't. I paced up and down behind the lower deck with my brother. (He couldn't sit with his wife and her family) Man how we celebrated. Being in NO at the Sugar Bowl beating one of your biggest rivals for all the marbles. It will never be as sweet as that one. Never. |
