"and then there were 10. Who's left on our board. who are we likely to get?"

Edited by Author at 12/27/2016 - 11:57 a.m.

I can't justify even putting WRs Harley or Ruggs on our board since we have no shot and/or aren't interested.

The following are likely...according to moi.  No I have no "proof" just what I've gathered from others and from reading the tea leaves.

Tyrone Truesdell DT…..3 star from Georgia.  “only” a 3 star but the kind of 3 star that has multiple offers from SEC programs and Clemson and Louisville.  He’s universally thought to be favoring us.  We obviously need him.  I think we get him.

James Robinson…4 star WR.  Lakeland.  Our only real competition seems to be Oklahoma.  He has openly said he favored us for months.  He does have a troubled past but appears to have kept his nose clean for a while which secured him the UF offer he wanted.  The only question is if slow playing him offended him too much to sign with us.  I think we get him.  BTW, he’s in the rivals 100 so he’s a very good player.  I dunno if he’s a home run threat but he is a big physical WR.

CJ Henderson…4 star/Rivals 250 CB….from Miami.  Speedster and outstanding return man on special teams.  We very much want him and he has been favoring us since he decomitted from scUM.  I think we get him.   Shawn Davis openly saying he wants to play safety can only help us with the remaining CBs we are after.

Brad Stewart 4 star/Rivals 250 CB/S from Louisiana.  He and LSU’s DB coach do not get along so they are no threat.  He has long favored us and almost committed months ago.  He's being pursued by a bunch of programs but I think we get him.

Kai-Leon Herbert  4 star/Rivals 100 OT from American Heritage is verbally committed to Michigan but there have been lots of rumblings that he will flip.  I’ll be honest and say I’ve heard mixed reviews on his talent but he is rated highly and several big boy programs want him….scUM is trying really hard to get him.  We get a visit at the end of January and I think there is a better than 50/50 shot we flip him.  2 of his teammates (Marco Wilson and James Houston) are already committed to us and he played with Jake Allen who is committed to us before so they are all working him hard to come to Gainesville.  P.S. his twitter posts recently have been full of warm fuzzies for the Gators.  :^)

James Blackman 4 star QB from Belle Glade is currently committed to sow.  He grew up a Gator fan and he recently got the offer from UF he had wanted.  He’s more of a dual threat guy and Coach Mac and Nuss have apparently decided that they want a dual threat QB.  I dunno if he flips but having grown up a Gator and being from a Gator stronghold like Belle Glade, there is definitely a decent shot.

Brian Edwards 4 star/Rivals 250 CB/S  He was committed to scUM but they want him to play Safety and he wants to play CB so he decommitted.  We were on him early and picked right back up on him as soon as he did.  It is widely reported that if Blades flips or if we miss on so much as one other DB we are after we would take him.  I’ve heard several pretty knowledgeable people say we should take him regardless.  I think there’s probably at least a 50/50 shot he ends up in the class.  Obviously it would be as a Cornerback since that’s what he wants.

That's 7....maybe 6.  That leaves 3-4 spots open.  Now we enter the "maybe" zone.  Nobody really knows, UF wants several of these guys BADLY and is trying very hard but of course they are highly rated studs and others are trying hard for them too.

Tedarrell Slaton..4 star/Rivals 250 OL/DL.  He has been very quiet so nobody really knows where he is going or who he favors.  It is also uncertain where he would play exactly be it OT or OG or DT.  He has played multiple positions (many think its either OG or DT where he is best suited).  There were grade concerns early on but it seems to have become pretty clear he’s going to make the grades necessary.  sow and Meatchicken and scUM are all after him too.  He is teammates at American Heritage with Herbert and Wilson and Houston.  We would very much like to get him.  I’d say its less than a 50/50 shot but there is definitely a shot especially with a whole bunch of his teammates likely ending up Gators.

LaBryan Ray DE….4 star from Alabama….we really like him and want him.  Unfortunately many think he’s Bama bound.  Then again, no matter what the Bammers say and no matter what our own doom mongers say, there are only so many guys Bama can actually take.  No, they cannot sign half the country.  Sorry.  They are sitting at 25 commits right now.  They are thought to lead for WR Henry Ruggs and DE Jarez Parks in addition to the 25 they already have.  Something’s gotta give.  That said, I think he’s probably 75%-80% likely head to Bama but we do have a chance.

Aubrey Solomon = DT….5 star from Georgia.  Obviouly the single most wanted and needed recruit left on our board.  Where’s he going?  Who the hell knows?  He was committed to Michigan.  He has named about half a dozen schools his leader at one point or another.  Nobody knows who he really favors or if he will end up at any particular place.  We have his last visit just before NSD.

If we got one of the above it would be good.  I think the Coaches would be absolutely ecstatic if we got 2 of those.

This leaves 2-3 spots in the maybe/longshot group.  Of course, who thought we were going to get Kyrie Campbell or TJ Moore a month ago?  Campbell wasn't on our radar at all and Moore was barely on it.  So we could definitely pick up some of these or maybe even antoher 1-2 who nobody is even thinking of.  Also, if we are lucky some could fall in love on their visit and commit to us....that does happen a few times per class for everybody.

Tony Gray 4 star OT from Georgia…he is widely thought to be favoring the buttsniffers.  Still, we do have a shot.  He’s another that I’ve heard mixed reviews on….though again he is being pursued by several SEC programs and he does rate fairly high.  I think it would be a longshot for us.

Caleb Chandler 3 star OT from Georgia…Louisville is thought to be leading.  We and scUM and a few other SEC programs are also recruiting him.  I’ve heard a few people say they like him as a prospect better than Tony Gray who is also from Georgia.  Who knows?  I think he likely ends up at Louisville but there definitely is a chance.

Stephan Zabie 4 star from Austin, Texas.  Oklahoma is widely thought to be leading.  Several others in cluding us are after him.  He’s a tough one to judge because he had to sit out this past year due to a state of Texas rule limiting players to 4 years of varsity football.  He is talented and has the frame though so lots of schools are interested.  Its probably a longshot but we do get a visit on our big recruiting weekend on Jan 20th so there’s a shot with him.

Levi Jones 4 star LB from Austin Texas (He and Zabie are temmates).  It is widely thought he ends up with the Aggies.  His dad and Randy Shannon have a relationship though so that gives us a shot.  I think it’s a longshot and I think if we don’t get him we just don’t sign a 3rd LB in this class….but there is always that chance we pull both he and Zabie when they visit Jan 20th for our big recruiting weekend.

Devon Hunter…this one is interesting….4 star/Rivals 100 Safety from Virginia.  Torrian Gray has a longstanding relationship with him and he likes our depth chart.  Many thought Va Tech was leading all along.  Bama and Auburn and Georgia and Clemson and others were after him too.  Recently I heard a surprising account that he had been likely to commit to Auburn….but there DB coach recently left and he has now pushed his commitment date back.  We’d certainly love to have him and have been recruiting him hard for a long time.  I think it’s a longshot but we’re still in it.

DeAngelo Gibbs…4 star/Rivals 250 Safety from Georgia…he was committed to Auburn as a QB.  We recruited him from the start as a Safety.  He decommitted from Auburn and has made up his mind to play Safety.  It’s a battle between us and the home state buttsniffers.  I’d rate it as 75% them and only a 25% chance we get him but there’s a shot.

Markaviest Bryant 3 star DE from Georgia (the other rankings agree between 24/7 and Rivals but not this one.  He’s a 4 star on 24/7) He is likely going to be a buttsniffer but we are trying along with several others.  This is a longshot.

Xavier McKinney 4 star Safety from Georgia.  He’s being pursued by everybody…Clemson. UGA, Bama, Auburn, us etc.  He looks very likely to go to Clemson.  This is definitely a long long long shot.

Where would this put the class as a whole?  We are currentl 17th on Rivals and right around there on 24/7 and ESPN.  I think 6-7 of these guys highly likely and it wouldn't take all that much for us to reach 10 with 8-9 of them being 4 stars.  We have nine 4 star guys committed already.  To put that in perspective, Oklahoma is currently ranked #4 with 23 commits 17 of whom are 4 stars.  Obviously others will continue to get guys between now and NSD but almost all the classes ranked higher than ours are or are very near being done while we still have 10 schollies to fill.  For example, aTm is ranked #7 with 26 commits 11 of whom are 4 stars.  ummm how many more can they take?  2 total.  It seems highly likely we will end up with more 4 stars than them when all is said and done...and again, they are currently ranked 7th.  Not that I put too much stock in finishing a few spots higher but the gloom and doom talk about how we'd be lucky to finish in the mid teens seems pretty silly to me and I could easily see us finishing in the top 10.....again not that it matters for much more than puffing our chests out on NSD.

“Every man should endeavor to understand the meaning of subjugation before it is too late… It means the history of this heroic struggle will be written by the enemy; that our youth will be trained by Northern schoolteachers; will learn from Northern school books their version of the war; will be impressed by the influences of history and education to regard our gallant dead as traitors, and our maimed veterans as fit objects for derision… It is said slavery is all we are fighting for, and if we give it up we give up all. Even if this were true, which we deny, slavery is not all our enemies are fighting for. It is merely the pretense to establish sectional superiority and a more centralized form of government, and to deprive us of our rights and liberties.”  Maj. General Patrick R. Cleburne, CSA, January 1864

"I yet believe that the maintenance of the rights and authority reserved to the states and to the people, not only essential to the adjustment and balance of the general system, but the safeguard to the continuance of a free government. I consider it as the chief source of stability to our political system, whereas the consolidation of the states into one vast republic, sure to be aggressive abroad and despotic at home, will be the certain precursor of that ruin which has overwhelmed all those that have preceded it." Robert E. Lee
