Perhaps some aren't as attached as others, but we all have our favorite team. We defend our players for miscreant actions while ridiculing or denouncing the opposition for acting similarly. We mostly read articles favorable to our team only to feign objectivity by occasionally citing "national" souces that we declared hacks just a few columns ago.

When we are losing, we often disappear only to return when it looks like our team is improving or the opponent is fading. And just like college sports, we can't help it. Most of us grew up supporting our team because our parents did. Some changed to an opponent later in life, but that is rare. And when it happens, the passion is often stronger.

I am learning to get it here. I cannot persuade anyone to change political opinions any more than I could make Hump a Dawg. It ain't gonna happen. The best outcome is to argue about nuances of the game and the quality of its annoncers. On these, we might agree occasionally.
