Cubans have only survived due to Soviet largesse, free oil from VZ, remittances from the US, and self-protective concessions the regime has made to foreign tourism investors, along with information control that predates modern communication. Russia's leaders are still despots, but they aren't socialists any more.  US sanctions and the drop in oil have impacted incomes and living standard, but it's not the bread lines of old. China is still Red, but its reforms are another acknowledgment that socialism inevitably fails in every example we've known.
