A former student who was just about to complete his junior year, was killed in a car wreck on Thursday morning. I had him 3 years ago and his sister last year. Below is a short exchange I had with Mason's dad on FB. To say I was close to both of them is an understatement and what I said about Mason is really an understatement, that's how great of a kid he was. Tomorrow  is going to be a difficult day for the hundreds of people who knew Mason. Please don't mess with your phones while you are driving.

Jeff, I know there's nothing I can say to ease the pain and heartache you, Mia and your loved ones are feeling right now. But rarely does a student come along whom I can say it was an honor and privilege to teach. Mason was one of them. He was a fantastic young man who reflected the values you instilled in him. While it is time to mourn, it is also time to remember and celebrate the way he lived his life and the lives that he touched and influenced. Everybody who ever interacted with Mason is a better person because of him. A part of him will live on forever within all these people.
