The distances, for example, is what makes the game so thrilling to watch. As does the 7 inning lenght. As does the outfield fence distances. As does the various batting styles (slap vs standard). It is not baseball; it has its own unique feel/culture and messing with things only goes to deteriote that. 13 year olds play on the same fields as college and the majors; should we change college baseball because of this? No. If it doesn't make sense for baseball, it shouldn't for softball either.

In any case, women's softball is enjoyable on a completely different level than baseball. They resemble each other, but are not the same sport.
