Whereas it would be nice to have a whole brand new baseball facility with upgraded amenities and ample parking, I really like the centralized location of all the main sports stadiums... football, basketball/volleyball, baseball, track/soccer. McKethan certainly needs upgrades (spectator roof) to stay up with other SEC facilities, but until ticket demand increases it would seem hard to justify entire new venue construction. The reliable Florida baseball fanbase skews much older than other similar schools. UF students and younger Gainesvillians just don't latch on to baseball despite UAA's best efforts. I'm not sure student participation would increase moving the stadium to the outskirts of campus near the softball stadium. It's a chicken or the egg scenerio for Gator Baseball with the stadium and spectators. ==============================
I'm guessing that building it somewhere else on campus allows us to play the 2018 season in the current dump, unless they tear down The Mac and get going with the stand alone football facility in the same spot. Stricklin is my hero if he makes a new stadium happen. |
