"Because like too much of the economy where the govt is involved....." |
|
Message Replied To ========== Well, I don't completely disagree with that, but student borrowers will pay more even higher interest rates, and they are already too high. Most student borrowers I know WANT to pay off their student loans, but why should the government be making some much profit off of them. (and neither should the private lenders, BTW).============================== ....all the players are making bank at the expense of market partcipants. Injecting all that money into subsidization makes tuition goes up, which makes the subsidies increase, ad infinitum. And all the while everyone's making $. The best idea I've heard lately is banks and investors "crowdfunding" individual students' tuitions in exchange for a % of their income once they get a job. That way students can shop for the best deal and funders can price in the likelihood of getting their $ back. That encourages in-demand degrees by making them cheap to fund and dissuades students from spending $350k on an art history degree and being saddled with debt the rest of their lives. |
