Three reasons to feel more comfortable.

1.  Allowing a kid to identify as a different gender at one point in their lives does not force them to maintain that gender.  Kids change their minds about lots of thengs for which they adamantly feel. While I don't think gender is one of those, if it was, then allowing flexibility wouldn't cause less flexibility.

2.  Actually you have plenty of evidence in your own experiences that most kids do strongly identify as a gender at an early age regardless of what the parents do to be neutral.  We just don't notice this because in the vast majority of cases, they identify consistent with genetalia.

3.  In the absence of evidence of harm, we should trust the judgments of the parents, who know their children far better than we do from our comfortable distance.  That is what any of us would want if it was our child who was not fitting in.

How do you feel about teenager getting hormones to delay puberty.

I have a huge problem with this action.   Before an adult can transition, they have to have years of counseling to insure they are psychologically ready for the transition.  How can children make that decision?

I know what it is like to grow up gay.  I knew I was gay from an early age and I don't doubt that these kids feel they are a different gender.  But, if we allow teens to take puberty blockers are we not giving them a permanent status?  What if these transgendered kids simply turn out to be gay and didn't realize they are just gay.  Because, realistically, when they transition, they become heterosexual, in most cases.

The camp for trans kids is ok because it is simply a camp.  I just think that allowing children to make these choices at a young age is just a little much for me.
