I have season tickets for Notre Dame football since I moved here in 1990. I only go to one or two games a year, and usually only those games that don't conflict with the Gators. I would much rather watch the Gators on TV than watch the Irish live. It's like if you work at IBM and they play football against the Gators, you wouldn't have that close an attachment to IBM because they are your employer. It's your undergrad alma mater that matters.
I plan to go to two ND games this year. Georgia and USC. The Gators are off when the Irish host USC, so that one is a no-brainer. While the Gators and Irish both play games on Sept. 9th, the Gators are against Northern Colorado and the Irish against the Dawgs. . No big deal to miss that live, I will DVR it and watch it when I get home. The chance to boo the Bulldogs live again and wear a Gators cap and do the chomp to Bulldogs in the stands and confuse them (which admittedly is not a difficult task) is too much to pass by.
But I now have a moral dilemma. I just looked at StubHub and tickets in my section for ND-Georgia are going for $1,000 apiece. My season tickets cost $1,200 all in. So you see my issue.
The only other time I considered doing this was the 1993 FSU game. I had four tickets, and I was offered $4,000 for them. I was an untenured assistant professor at the time with very little money and two young children. The money would have really helped. But my father-in-law was a huge ND fan, and the chance to take him and my brother-in-law ruled the day. It was the right call; that was an amazing game and a highlight of my life. I'm glad I went.
Okay, I'm going. I will boo the hell out of the Dawgs. And I promise to wear Gator gear to the game. Thank you for the online therapy.
