That's what's really sobering.  We can use the #butHillary thing to explain the election, sure, but now that he is in office and shows what a completely unfit nutjob he is on a daily basis...it's hard to rationalize away that so many still blindly support him.

There are a lot of poor white people who see minorities getting educated, getting good jobs, buying nice things, and moving ahead while they're still stuck in the same place asking "What about me?" Instead of praising minorities for doing what republicans said they should be doing by working hard, Trump is using them as the reason poor whites can't move ahead. Instead of saying the American dream is alive and well in in people who endure unspeakable hardship to get into this country just to cut lettuce, or pick grapes, he's saying the American dream is dead using minorities as the poor white man's handy dandy excuse for failure. Trump is essentially saying it's not their fault, it's the fault of all those black, brown, and yellow people who are taking your jobs.

Self reflection and admitting our weaknesses is hard as we can see on this board (I'm including myself), and it's much easier to blame someone else. So I don't think it's so much that they're acting cultish, but more they love the man who tells them they don't need to feel bad about their plight because it's not their fault, and says he's going to fix it for them.
