"The problem, at least with Trump, though is Trump (or any government official)..." |

Message Replied To ========== Something for you to consider First Amendment protects citizens from having law enacted that suppress or prohibit free speech. There is no requirement that a citizen defend another's free speech or freedom of expression. The NFL does not require its players to stand during the anthem In a work setting, every single day in America, you can have a severe consequence to the exercise of free speech. If an employee of mine does a nazi salute in the lobby, she's fired on the spot. Now let's look at the NFL and its 'workplace' - if a player on the field says to a ref in a loud voice "You are a nazi loving piece of #badword# who needs to die right now" Guess what? Penalized, and possibly ejected. Content based consequence, right? Tim Tebow can't put John 3:16 on eyeblack. MaMahon prohibited from putting words- content - on a headband. All content based prohibitions in the "workplace" of the NFL. Another employer prohibits Tshirts with words on them being worn in the workplace. Every single day as a condition of employment people give up certain protections.
============================== demanding that employees get fired for exercising their free speech rights. It's one thing for a company to decide to do it of its own volition; it's another thing for a government official to demand it. Granted, he doesn't have the "authority" to enforce it, but it's still a horrific look for a supposed democratic society. |
