Coaches and teammates are in a closed environment influenced by self-interest. More is at issue, especially the reputation of Gator football. The alleged crimes by these players are serial, serious, and of national interest. A dozen threads here dealt with the Equifax breach and fears of financial fraud to many posting on the Virtual Swamp.

These players appear to have harmed UF's reputation in a big way. Reliance on lenient diversion processes tars our program. We have laughed at FSU's defenses of miscreant behavior by players since the Mass Brothers thefts nearly 40 years ago. I don't want the Gator football program to be stigmatized with them.

The University should assess the situation quickly and boot anyone relying on technicalities to avoid severe consequences. Get this scandal over now. Any player affected can take the Jabar Gaffney route by paying penance and petitioning to be reinstated on the team. Those unwilling to do so can get lost.
