" This is getting ridiculous"

This is getting ridiculous

I have been watching the Cam Newton remark and then his apology.  Don't get me wrong, I am not a big Cam fan (not even a small one) but this constant dissecting of an offhand remark has spread to the point of silliness.  I watched the interview and I didn't see any ridiculing or mean spirit in the remark.  Heck, I still marvel at the girls like Maria and the rest talk about things that just a few years ago they didn't understand.  It's not just this instance alone though.  If I were in the NFL or any other position that required contact with the media, I would just say yes or no.  If the media examined the tone of his original remark as much as they have his apology it would have died on the vine.

It was demeaning and sexist. He's always been immature, and he reacted like a flirtatious teenager, first smirking as she was talking, then saying what he did. By saying it was funny to hear a woman talk about routes, to me he implied that he's more used to women in his life playing some other role, such as bedding after the game, but definitely not serious football talk. It sounded like how a player might talk to a female fan, rather than a reporter. It was inappropriate.

As a fan, you can note how unusual it is to see a woman sports reporter, but if you were standing at the podium, you would probably be careful not to disrespect women journalists by suggesting they're out of their element. He should have been.
