Franco, the kids frog, is over 6 years old. They say these particular frogs will live well into their 20's, but I doubt Franco will. A couple of months ago, we noticed a lump form in his abdomen, and had no idea what caused it. He didn't act any different, so we didn't worry about it. Last month, he developed a second lump. Again, we thought it was odd, but since he was still eating, we weren't concerned. It wasn't until he developed a third lump this past week, and began being very lethargic that we thought his days must be numbered. My daughter was very upset yesterday when she couldn't get him to move. We all thought he was dead. All of a sudden, he surprised us all and moved a bit, so she put some food in the tank. Instead of dashing for it like he used to do, he would swim up a couple of inches, then sink back down.
I don't know why (as if there's anything I could do for him), I called the frog company today and asked them what could possibly be causing these lumps in his abdomen. I explained how we first noticed one, then another, then finally the third one. She asked if we had gravel in the tank (we know you're not supposed to use gravel for the frogs because they mistake it as food). I told her all we had was the sand that they recommended and a few glass decorative marbles. She asked if the lumps were the same size as the marbles. I felt like a complete idiot when I told her as a matter of fact, they were the same exact size.No wonder he doesn't float anymore!!!
Who would have thought the stupid frog would eat those big marbles?!!! See for yourself.
I guess I'll be buying a new frog this Christmas.
