Message Replied To ========== Had an interesting discussion with a nice young man from the UAA this weekend about Mac. He more or less said he'd wanted Mac gone since the time he arrived. Said Mac was good to the players but pretty much no one else. That Mac was very disappointed with the state of our facilities (can hardly blame him ther) and apparently didn't know about it until he showed up for work. Arrogant was the word he used to describe him over and over. I'm glad Mac pushed for new facilities. Also really glad he's gone. Clearly not a good fit for the university. Only cared for himself and his own project (football). The job is bigger than that. The guy is not a leader. ==============================I worked side-by-side with Coach Mac since the day he arrived; the man was nothing but nice to me. Called me by my name, always asked me how I was doing, joked around with me, thanked me for anything I did for the department even if I was only walking through and not actually doing anything at the moment for him, and was just a joy to be around. Whenever I was around the recruits, Coach Mac would stop me and introduce me to them, and say, "this is the lady that decorated the Hawkins Center; you should let her know how much you liked it." Was he sarcastic? Absolutely. So am I; incredibly so. Was he condescending to others? I never saw it in person.
Did Mac talk down about the facilities? No more than any other coach at UF. I should know, I work with every single one of them on a daily basis and we all lament the fact that the Lemerand is in sad shape, that Soccer needs to have its own facilities, Pearcy Beard track needs resurfacing, Volleyball needs its own identity, Lacrosse and Softball offices need to be moved out to their facilities, and on and on. The entire UAA agrees with the fanbase that the facilities need to be better.
While I'm at it, I need to say that Randy, Big Rump, Tim Skipper, Nuss, Kerry, and the assistants are good people... I like them all. They're really good people; great to work with. Do they need to kick it up a notch or ten on the field? Absolutely. No doubt about that at all. I'm a fan, too, so they've come to expect me giving them grief, win or lose.
Maybe Mac treated me differently because I'm a female and a tad higher up the food chain than the young man you spoke with, I don't know. I'd like to think it's because I practice the Golden Rule and work hard to make Gator Nation a better place for everyone. |
