Yet another former player of Chip Kelly’s took a shot at the new 49ers head coach this week.

This time it was guard Evan Mathis, who just won a Super Bowl with the Denver Broncos. The former Eagles guard says he had to beg Chip Kelly to release him from his contract so he could sign with the Broncos. And he wasn’t done there. He wrote in an email to to 9News:

“Two of the main issues that concerned me were: 1. A never-evolving, vanilla offense that forced our own defense to play higher than normal play counts. 2. His impatience with certain personality types even when they were blue-chip talents. The Broncos team I was on would have eaten Chip alive. I don’t think he could have handled the plethora of large personalities.”

Mathis joins a long line of former players who have spoken ill of the head coach after leaving his team. Let’s run down some others:

LeSean McCoy

McCoy is now with Buffalo, after Kelly brought in running back Darren McFadden, who was later frozen out of the offense. McCoy gave this answer after he departed the team:

[Our] relationship was never really great. I feel like I always respected him as a coach. I think that’s the way he runs his team. He wants the full control. You see how fast he got rid of all the good players. Especially all the good black players. He got rid of them the fastest. That’s the truth. There’s a reason. … It’s hard to explain with him. But there’s a reason he got rid of all the black players — the good ones — like that.

Lane Johnson

Johnson was the Eagles’ first draft pick in the Kelly era, but that didn’t stop him from going on record about the coach’s shortcomings following Kelly’s departure from Philadelphia.

“Maybe the ego got in the way,” Johnson said. “Too much power. Control. Not being human about things; not working together, with the team, instead of being a dictator.”

DeSean Jackson

Jackson was a star receiver for the Eagles who saw his targets dwindle before leaving the team for Washington.

Jackson said the following to MMQB after Kelly was fired:

I’m a firm believer that bad karma comes back on you. When you ruin a team like that, you do things to peoples’ families, you release people, you trade people, you get rid of good players who build something with the community, with the fans, with the kids—to have a guy come in and change up the team like that, I just believe in karma. I don’t have any bad words to say about him as far as what he feels he needs on his roster.

Brandon Boykin

Boykin was another Eagles player who was traded from the team during Kelly’s tenure. He was a bit more magnanimous than others, but not much.

In a text message to Comcast SportsNet’s Derrick Gunn, Boykin said Kelly is “uncomfortable around grown men of our culture.”

“He can’t relate and that makes him uncomfortable,” Boykin added in the text message. “He likes total control of everything, and he don’t like to be uncomfortable. Players excel when you let them naturally be who they are, and in my experience that hasn’t been important to him, but you guys have heard this before me.”

Cary Williams

The cornerback notably once critiqued the Eagles’ practice sessions after a team win, and once he was departed for the Seahawks, made it clear he didn’t think Kelly had what it took.

“Whatever that is they’re creating, I didn’t believe it,” Williams said. “We went to one playoff game, we had a home playoff game and we lost that. And it was his first year, I understand that. I think he’s a great coach, a tremendous coach. I just think that what’s going on there isn’t necessarily the right way of doing things, of winning games.

Emmanuel Acho

Acho didn’t say anything directly about Kelly, though he did tweet this out immediately after news broke that Kelly had been fired. You be the judge.
