The coach has to be a good fit for the school, even if he may not be the better coach.

Kelly is a west coast guy...fast and furious and a total control freak. He wants complete control of the program and thinks he is above the University President. Thus the deal he struck in Texas to get/buy recruits. That BS ain't flying at UF period. Former players he has coached in the NFL don't have good things to say about him, even some he didn't cut. The SEC is not Chip Kelly, and UF is likely the worst SEC school for him of the 14.

Frost himself doesn't think he is ready for such a bigtime SEC job, even the best one for him and closest to him with the same weather and recruiting base. Otherwise he would have listened. We certainly don't want a coach who is scared or not ready for the task.

Take Steve Spurrier as another example. Think he would fit in at Michigan, Wisconsin, or Penn St? USCw or Oregon? Doubt it but he is perfect for the south where he grew up and played. He knows the SEC b/c he lived it and played in it.

Mullen has also lived in it, and coached in it. And best of all, has walked the sidelines in the Swamp while winning titles. He knows EXACTLY what he is getting himself in to...and still wants to jump in that fire. He knows the Gator Nation and its expectations b/c he has seen it and lived it...just ask his wife. YET, they still want to come back and take it on again.

Muschamp thought he knew ....Mac thought he knew...but the UF fan base ate them alive and they both caved under the pressure. The job even got to Meyer after winning 2 NC's. Mullen knows this before he stepped out of the plane today. He'll get no surprises.

Yet he still wants the job and wants the challenges to meet these demands and expectations from the Gator Nation.

Mullen fits at UF. They know each other already. Sometimes that weighs more than the eyeball test.

==============================

Mullen's "fit" at UF.

He was not liked by (at least) half of our base when he was here. How is that a proper fit?

He was not well-received by (at least) half of our base yesterday (when news broke). How is that a tight fit?

His offense as a head coach is very pedestrian, very low-scoring, and his passing game is...less than pedestrian. How is that a good fit for UF?

I'm sorry, but #badword# UAA if "control" with top candidate Kelly was an issue. Honestly, I think you are right on that and it makes me loath Stricklin and Foley's cronies (including Foley) who still linger within UAA. We keep hitting our heads on the same wall by making the same bad decisions. If what you typed is true, then UF isn't comitted to winning in football, it's just happy to have an 8-10 win coach.

And that worries me.

Look, I didn't type this in a new thread...I am responding to the assumption that those of us who are not happy are "forgetting" something. Mullen is our coach now so there is nothing we can do but rally behind him. With that said, don't try to sell me on this being a smart hire.

At best, it was a safe hire.
