Currie, Haslam's cupboy, had three weeks and produced candidate otherwise mentioned for exactly ZERO P5 coaching positions. In today's letter he rambled on about vetting and family values and personal relationships. The talk of losers. His tone was defensive and preachy all at once. When you're an SEC AD, you really have only one job and we know what that is. Even if UT were doing well, wouldn't it cross his mind - at the gym, in the grocery checkout line, waiting to board a plane - to have given a coach search some thought, even if just as a fun scenario exercise? What has he spent the past year doing? Oh, yeah, cupboy.

It reminds me of the SEC basketball refs back in the 1990s - particularly one whose name I cannot remember - who seemed to pride themselves on those "hidden" fouls that nobody would ever think of, as if they had found some abandoned medieval text and were proud to dust it off and do an Atlantic interview. Currie - yeah, you found that hidden gem, apparently the one nobody wanted. Of course it was hidden. And you kept it all a secret, but that wasn't hard because who was going to speculate about Bob f-cking Schianio?? Then you dusted off your diamond under cover of Sunday, and the Vols summarily pissed in your champagne.

I think UT needs a self-imposed death penalty, by which I mean they should keep Hoke another year - and make him AD too. Just start the f-ck over. Better still, and I've suggested this before about basketball, save the 5 million a year and have NO coach. What a media curiosity that would be - the attention alone would be worth at least a NC. Let the players watch youtube videos and read Neyland's maxims and find their own workout accountabilibuddies, and let's just throw it out there on the field and ya know what - I bet we could do better than 4-8 on that strategy. Take the 5 million/yr and, oh, I don't know, offer free season tickets, cokes, and hot dogs to 5,000 veterans. Better still, build them a stadium club. Do something useful.
