"RE: NFL's concussion policy and procedures" |
|
Message Replied To ========== NFL's concussion policy and procedures Did anyone see the hit in this article? HTF did they let this guy go back in the game? Obviously there are issues with how these rules and medical evaluations are being applied, but to me the more damning part of the whole thing is that player behavior doesn't seem to have changed that much, if at all. Yea sure, there are bang-bang plays where the guy inadvertantly hits a player high with his head b/c the target is moving, but I still see hits every Sunday where you can tell the tackler is intentionally lowering head and hitting with crown of head on purpose. Yes, this hit was not a helmet to helmet, but there are still these kinds of hits in jusst about every game. Why is that?
I think you just take the helmets away if you want these kinds of hits to go away. Watch footage of leather helmet football (DJ has some insight here, maybe he can chime in), you don't see guys running full tilt and smashing into another guy with the crown of their head. Or maybe you just make NFL players sign a waiver that says they're deciding to risk their health by playing the sport? Maybe helmet technolgy will eventually catch up?
