To me, you either have a law or you change it.  Not enforcing laws on books is unacceptable and unfair for those that follow the current law.  It should not be the job of the executive to cherry pick what they do and do not enforce.

I think the laws should be changed to deal with current situation at the same time securing our borders with the most cost effective means possible.

Liberals need to come to grips with the fact that we can not open our borders to everyone, that the law is the law and, by the very definition, immigrants who came here illegally are illegal immigrants, and that there is no inherent right to be allowed to immigrate to the US or any country. Granting admission to college or using public money for noncitizens in preference over citizens is plain wrong.

Conservatives need to come to grips that, in order to survive our nation MUST have immigration, that the vast majority of immigrants, illegal and legal, are good people and will make good Americans if allowed to be here, and that nativist protectionist policies are harmful to the country and to the political parties that espouse them. Just ask the no-nothings and Whigs.

We need a rational immigration policy..one that is more "liberal" on allowing legal work visas but perhaps more "conservative" in terms of raising the bar on allowing full citizenship rights..such as a long waiting period, proficiency in English etc. A more rational legal residence system would enhance our security because then ICE and homeland security could concentrate on the "bad" and dangerous minority of undocumented immigrants and not be overburdened by the "good" not dangerous ones who are currently undocumented and who make up the overwhelming majority of undocumented aliens in the country now.
