...and that isn't overcome by all of the good he has done (including donating $1M of his own money to charity).  He is an SOB because he disrespects the flag (and by extension our troops) for peacefully protesting an injustice he sees in society in a manner that was recommended to him by a veteran of our military.  Indeed, he went from sitting, to kneeling, after consulting with that veteran, which shows that he himself may be more open to the views of others than those who are judging his actions from the outside looking in.  He is an SOB, even though he is willing to sacrifice a lucrative career because he will not compromise his morals.  I wonder how many of us would be willing to do the same?  Would you?  

If you think he is an SOB, that is fine.  I am not here to change your opinion, you're entitled to it.  That is what is great about our country and what is reprsented by the flag, the National Anthem, and defended by our troops over so many years.  However, if he is an SOB in your opinion, then you should be prepared for people to default assume you're a racist, in their opinion, regardless of what other evidence might be there to contradict that conclusion.  For the record, I neither think you're racist, nor am accusing you of being such, but based on the context of this argument, it is absolutely reasonable for others to conclude that you might be.  I think that would be unfortunate, but that is just me.
