How is what we are seeing, not authoritarianism? He has utterly subjugated congress.

Lack of oversight is one thing and while not unique to this congress, never has such a blind eye been turned to so much corruption and conflict of interest and abusive behavior on the part of the WH & many Secretaries

But policy-making is new, recall McConnell on immigration saying the Senate wouldn't do anything until they get a read on what the WH will support. Ryan we all know won't do anything -- unless it involves his wet dream of taking social support from the poor.

Now the gun piece, and trade-war by fiat: his staff is so disfuncitional, hollow and incapable of influencing his whims, so he just decrees things to be.

Yet people continue to turn a blind eye & scoff at those of us who see and are alarmed, I guess because some agree with the policy, others see the chaos in Washington as a good thing, and who knows why else, but make no mistake about it, Donald Trump was elected President, our chief executive, but what he is duing is more and more lie ruling, not governance. We have a lot of guardrails, some stronger than others, but they are under attack like never before.

And before you discount me because of what you think you know about my politics, this isn't about left or right, conservative or liberal, social or fiscal policy, disagree with me on those as much as you want.

But this is about our democratic process and if you think what's going on now shouldn't concern you, I'll just say that it should because the next one might be even crazier.

==============================

Their failure to do so is of their own volition. Trump is not, nor can he, prevent them from doing so.

Equating Trump to a totalitarian such as Hitler, Stalin, Castro or Mussolini is a grave disservice to the millions of victims of those regimes who were murdered when they opposed them...even early on.

That is not to say there are not warning signs...but those warning signs have been creeping up on us since WWII as we concentrated more and more power in the Executive branch.

Eventually we will have someone as President who has charisma but a soul darker than anyone we have ever hold office. Tge power of the office attracts just such a person. Then you will know what a true totalitarian is.

Until we weaken the executive branch and federal government in general, I will thank God for unpopular Presidents.
