"I hate this stuff...I really, really do"

Edited by Author at 4/19/2018 - 2:59 p.m.

the radical, extremist left pisses me off more than the radical extremist right. Why? Because they set back legitimate causes.

And when an academic contributes to the radical left, he/she/it harms the entire academy.

That is why I loath 'amzing jerk' Randa Jarrar for saying hateful things about Barbara Bush...who WAS amazing...PERIOD. By all accounts, the former first lady was a class act. The type of person we need in the White House. But Jarrar cared more about generating attention for herself than doing the right thing and advancing legitimate causes. She embodies the modern day social justice warrior [someone who is less interested in justice than attention]. But hey, if she sells more books...who cares? Right?

Meanwhile, those of us who do real work [rather than JUST self-promotion] are left to deal with conservative reactions to yet another "pinko liberal leftist professor." See below, she boasts about noting being fired:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/grade-point/wp/2018/04/18/after-calling-barbara-bush-an-amazing-racist-a-professor-taunts-critics-i-will-never-be-fired/?utm_term=.e03356ed585a

How do you think bragging like that will influence conservative legistators in handling tenure for higher education? Will it further safeguard tenure? Oh hell no. So real research is at risk.

Tenure exists to protect academic thought on research topics and in lectures, not hateful tweets spewed for clicks and book sales.

Sadly, this type of thought and action is not limited to Jarrar as there are too many in the humanities and in other fields that study diversity and gender who adopt radical [sometimes hateful] views on social issues. Keep in mind, I'm not saying she and others are not entitled to their viewpoints, but I am saying they are recklessly irresponsble. I have had several conversations with left-leaning professors from various fields who admit that extremism from leftist professors is pushing them more to the conservative.

And those professors are probably like most Americans who find themselves in the middle...they support sooooo many causes adopted by the left, but they fear that doing so at the polls will mean also supporting ridiculous causes [like stopping the use of gendered pronouns].

I call it the PETA effect. I bet just about most here would support legislation that prevents abuse of animals, but don't want to give up steak and leather. PETA just can't help itself...pushes the extreme just as hard as the reasonable...so no ground is gained.

Well, Jarrar likes to think she advances causes for Arabs in this country. Sorry Jarrar, you didn't with that statement. I won't listen to anything else you have to say.

Sadly, too many legitimate voices will be quited along with your radical voice. Because you can't trust those leftist professors.

And that is why I can't stand Jarrar. Well, that and her hateful comments. Like I said, Bush was a class act.
