Renewable Fuels Standard or RFS. One of the stupidest things ever created. it requires refineries to either make or use a “renewable “ fuel....which is always ethanol....or to buy Renewable Information Number called RINs.  A artficial fake but ever so costly market for these RINs has emerged in the US and they are traded and banked based on the production of fuels by refineries. The complexity of the system is beyond stupid but to be brief small refineries like the one Ichan owns are going bust because they can’t afford to produce fuel and also buy these RINs. There is a major battle between corn producers and oil industry that is simmering and bubbling up and bozo electecteds on both sides of the isle won’t fix the underlying issues associated with the RFS so they put bandaids on it by issuing exemptions like this which both major oil companies and ethanol interest oppose. Do not for one second ever believe that the corn growers in this country aren’t a huge political force. The issues associated with the RFS go way beyond party and one day will go from beyond the bubbling to a full boil and explode
