""The warping of the meaning for craven commercial purposes is true cultural appropriation,.." |
|
Message Replied To ========== Kind of ironic that it was Chicano activists in the 60's who initially raised awareness of a minor state holiday (it's not a Federal holiday in Mexico) as a way of celebrating Mexican culture and heritage. El Dia de la Batalla de Puebla has lately swiftly devolved into a marketing vehicle for selling crap beer and Tex-Mex food staples. Many Okies actually think it is Independence Day in Mexico. The warping of the meaning for craven commercial purposes is true cultural appropriation, not some dumb kid wearing a Chinese dress for prom. ============================== The true war on Xmas is not some store clerk saying "happy holidays" instead of "merry Xmas" but the fact that Xtains expect store clerks to put a quais-religious patina on our culture's yearly celebration of greed and materialism. |
